Terms of service
Version 1 · 21 September 2026 · Applies to Guru (guru.zimplex.ai)
These terms are the agreement between you and us for your use of Guru. How we handle personal information is a separate document — our privacy notice. It is deliberately separate: privacy information should be readable on its own, not buried in a contract.
1. Who we are
Guru is provided by Zimplex.AI Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC819809), registered office 5 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, EH2 4AN.
You can contact us at info@zimplex.ai. “We”, “us” and “our” mean Zimplex.AI Ltd; “you” means the person holding a Guru account.
By creating an account you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not create an account.
2. Who can use Guru
Guru is a professional tool for teachers. To hold an account you must:
- be 18 or over;
- be a teacher or other member of staff at a school or educational institution; and
- register with a school or institutional email address that passes our verification check.
Guru is not for pupils. There are no pupil accounts, and pupils must not be given access to an account.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for what happens under your account. Please tell us promptly at info@zimplex.ai if you think someone else has access to it.
Accounts are personal to you. Please do not share your login with colleagues — each teacher needs their own account.
4. What you put into Guru
Your content stays yours. Courses, calendars, teaching plans, notes, reflective journal entries and to-do items you create in Guru belong to you. We claim no ownership of them. You grant us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your content, show it back to you, and process it to provide the features you use.
What you must not put into Guru:
- Pupil personal data. Guru holds no pupil records and has no pupil-level features. Do not enter pupil names, candidate numbers, SCNs, results attributable to a named pupil, or anything else identifying a pupil.
- Colleague personal data — names or identifying details.
- Anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to upload.
Free-text boxes such as the to-do bar and the reflective journal carry an on-screen reminder of this. The reminder is there because we cannot check what you type — keeping third-party personal data out of Guru is your responsibility.
5. Guru's AI features
- AI proposes; you decide. Guru does not act on your data by itself. You see what an automation will do and can approve, modify or reject it.
- Check the output. AI can misread an instruction or produce something wrong. You are responsible for reviewing anything Guru produces before relying on it professionally. Guru's output is not verified curriculum advice.
- Which AI features you can use depends on your plan, and may change as the product develops.
6. Plans and payment
Free plan. The core teaching calendar is free, and will stay free. This is a commitment, not a current intention: if you use Guru on the free plan today, we will not later put the core calendar behind a payment. New features may be paid; what is free now stays free.
Pro — £12.50 per month, or £120 per year paid annually (roughly two months free). Pro unlocks the features described on the pricing page at the time you subscribe. Prices include VAT where it applies.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details.
- Pro renews automatically — monthly or annually, matching the plan you chose — until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time from Settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and you keep Pro access until then.
- If we change the price, we will tell you at least 60 days in advance and the new price applies from your next renewal. You can cancel before it takes effect.
Your cancellation rights
If you subscribe as an individual rather than through a school, you have 14 days from the start of a new subscription to cancel and get a full refund, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Email us and we will refund you. You keep this right even if you have already started using Pro features. We could ask you to waive it in exchange for immediate access, as many services do — we have chosen not to.
Beyond that: if you are unhappy with Pro, email info@zimplex.ai and we will sort it out. We would rather refund you than argue about it.
7. What we promise, and what we don't
We will provide Guru with reasonable care and skill.
We do not promise that Guru will be uninterrupted or error-free. It is a young product. We may need to take it offline for maintenance, and we will try to keep that brief and give notice where we can.
Guru is a planning tool, not a source of professional advice. It does not replace your professional judgement, your school's policies, or Qualifications Scotland requirements. Decisions about what and how you teach remain yours.
Please keep your own copies. You can download everything in your account at any time from Settings. For anything you cannot afford to lose, keep a copy of your own.
8. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, and our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period, or £100.
We are not liable for loss caused by using AI output without checking it, or by not keeping your own copies of your content.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This permanently removes your account and your content and cannot be undone, so download your data first if you want to keep it.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms — in particular one that puts pupil personal data into Guru, is shared between people, or is used unlawfully. Where it is reasonable to do so we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we close a paid account for reasons that are not your fault, we will refund the unused part of your subscription.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product develops. For material changes we will give you reasonable notice by email or in the app before they take effect. If you do not accept a change, you can close your account. Each version is dated; continuing to use Guru after a change takes effect means you accept it.
11. General
- These terms are the whole agreement between us about Guru.
- If any part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- You may not transfer your rights under these terms to someone else. We may transfer ours — for example if the business is sold — provided your rights are not reduced.
- These terms are governed by Scots law, and the courts of Scotland have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
12. Complaints
Email info@zimplex.ai and we will respond. If your complaint is about how we handle personal data and you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
